Di lagu ini Sam smith berkolaborasi dengan menggandeng Jimmy napes dan Steve fitzmaurice sebagai produsernya. Lagu ini sendiri menggambarkan tentang rasa sakitnya. seperti penjelasannya " Lagu ini menggamabarkan tentang sakitku, Aku bernyanyi dan memperdengarkan ungkapan hatiku lewat Lay Me Down. penggemar tahu tentangku lewat lagu ini " terangnya. Lagu ini masih diambil dari album 'In The Lonely Hour' yang rilis pada 26 Mei 2014 yang meraih sukses besar.
