Lagu ini diambil dari album 'In The Lonely Hour' yang rilis pada 26 Mei 2014. lagunya sendiri terlebih dahulu dirilis di Italy pada 27 Desember 2013, kemudian menyusul di Inggris pada 12 Februari 2014 dan Jerman pada 16 Februari 2014. Penyanyi ini lahir di London Inggris dengan Nama lengkap Samuel Frederick smith yang merupakan sepupu penyanyi Lily allen. Selain penyanyi ia juga merupakan seorang penulis lagu.
Meski sempat membuat kontroversi dengan menyatakan bahwa dirinya adalah seorang homoseksual, tetapi tidak berpengaruh terhadap penjualan albumnya. Justru dalam debut album perdananya tersebut Sam Smith berhasil meraih kesuksesan dengan memuncaki peringkat pertama di tangga lagu Inggris. Albumnya-pun berhasil terjual 166 ribu copy di minggu pertama setelah rilis. Angka tersebut membuat Sam smith menembus rekor sebagai musisi pria Inggris dengan pejualan album debut tertinggi Selain Lana Del Rey dalam album Ultraviolence. Dalam ajang penghargaan Grammy 2015 ia pun berhasil masuk nominasi di enam kategory.
